Allegiant plans several new routes from Fort Myers as well as Punta Gorda to New Orleans
Allegiant Travel Company will launch new routes this fall connecting 12 cities across the country, including a new destination: Fort Myers, Florida via Southwest Florida International Airport. The new routes will provide convenient, nonstop service between these cities and expand Allegiant’s presence in popular leisure destinations.
Marco Island seeking info on series of vandalism incidents at park, beach access, other areas
The City of Marco Island has experienced several incidents of vandalism at Veterans Community Park over the past few months. More recently, there has been damage to public property at the Maple Avenue beach access point, and to public trash receptacles on Collier Boulevard.Damage has included ripping sinks off public restroom walls, dismantling public drinking fountains, knocking down the shower facilities at the beach, and pushing over trash cans.
Five members of alleged theft ring face charges for statewide thefts
Five members of an alleged retail theft crime ring are facing charges for thefts made at a number of retailers in 14 of Florida's 20 judicial districts, including the Twentieth, which covers Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Glades and Hendry counties.
Cape Coral receives key permit for Yacht Club Community Park
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection issued a critical permit for the Yacht Club Community Park renovation yesterday afternoon, bringing the City of Cape Coral one step closer to breaking ground on the park’s improvements.The environmental resource permit will now be sent to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), with federal approval anticipated in April 2025, barring unforeseen circumstances. Once received, the construction manager at risk will advertise the marine improvement portion of the project for construction bids, marking a significant step forward in the project.
Sewer line smoke testing set for Sanibel neighborhoods island-wide from March 3 through 7
From March 3 through 7, inspection crews from the City of Sanibel Public Works Utility Division and a city contractor will be conducting a smoke test of sewer lines in neighborhoods throughout the island. This will include a physical survey of the City of Sanibel wastewater collection system, which will involve the opening of manholes in the streets and easements.
Near-drought conditions push Collier County to issue burn ban
The Collier County Board of County Commissioners has authorized a burn ban due to deteriorating near-drought conditions. According to the National Integrated Drought Information System, 99 percent of Collier County is now under abnormally dry conditions.
Five arrested, one sought in auto theft ring probe started in SWFL
An investigation into an auto theft ring started in Southwest Florida in 2022 culminated this week with the arrests of six people in TampaThe Florida Department of Law Enforcement and representatives from the Tampa International Airport Police Department (TPAPD), Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) announced the arrests as part of an investigation into an auto theft ring.

Florida to hold record 126-day Gulf red snapper season for 2025
Florida will have a record-breaking 126-day Gulf Red Snapper recreational season for 2025, the longest season since Florida assumed management of Gulf red snapper. The expanded season as announced Monday by Governor Ron DeSantis includes additional summer and fall fishing days from 2024, offering anglers more opportunities to fish over major holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving.
Sanibel's Lighthouse Beach now anchored by 32,000 new plantings
Over the past year, the City of Sanibel placed more than 400,000 tons of sand to restore beaches devastated by recent hurricanes. With that phase complete, the focus shifted to replanting the beaches to reinforce the natural dune structure. Over 32,000 plants of a variety of species were planted, strengthening the beach with their root systems.
