In a surprise ceremony, U.S. administrator for Iraq Paul Bremer formally transfers sovereignty to Iraq's interim government two days ahead of schedule. The change in schedule is seen as a move to thwart insurgent attacks on the ceremony and show the world that Iraqis are ready to assume authority. In California, a man was pulled over after police saw him weaving in and out of traffic. When they did a blood test, the only thing that came up was caffeine — drunk driving charges were dropped.

Sacramento County Authorities Respond To Man Driving Erratically
Sheriff deputies ordered a man in California to pull over, but he refused and kept driving. A 20 minute chase ensued — during which time the driver traveled about a mile. He was driving a tractor.

Author Offers Unique Reward To Finder Of His Dog
Dennis Lehane, who wrote the darkly compelling novels Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone, has lost his beloved rescue dog. The novelist describes Tessa as "immeasurably sweet." To the finder, Lehane will name a character after you in his next novel.
