Lee Health broke ground for a new campus off Challenger Boulevard in the eastern part of the county while the Sarasota County Public Hospital Board approved a $450 million plan Tuesday to build North Port’s first hospital on North Sumter Boulevard in North Port.
Lehigh Acres man faces charges for alleged role in major theft ring targeting luxury-level vehicles
A federal grand jury indictment names Michel Serrano of Lehigh Acres as one of three men alleged to be part of a major Florida theft ring targeting vehicles including premium pickups, high-end Jeep models and luxury brands such as the Infiniti.The 34-year-old Serrano faces charges of conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen motor vehicles and the sale and possession of stolen motor vehicles, as well as two counts of interstate transportation of stolen motor vehicles. If convicted on all counts, Serrano faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. The indictment described Serrano as registered agent, president and treasurer of Serrano Trucks Corp. of Lehigh Acres. The Florida Division of Corporations lists the company as inactive.
National Safe Boating Week events in Lee and Collier County
In observance of National Safe Boating Week, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Wiggins Pass Flotilla is hosting events to celebrate and educate in Southwest Florida. National Safe Boating Week will take place from May 17 through May 23 this year. Florida is one of the most popular states for boating, with 81 percent of the state’s boating deaths being caused by drowning. Here is a full list of local National Safe Boating Week events.

Chelsea Lyles joins with former FGCU head coach Karl Smesko on Atlanta Dream staff
The Atlanta Dream announced Monday the completion of their 2025 coaching staff, adding former FGCU head coach and player Chelsea Lyles and former FGCU assistant coach Camryn Brown as assistant coaches under former FGCU head coach and now Atlanta Head Coach Karl Smesko. Lyles and Brown join assistant coaches Brandi Poole and LaToya Sanders, who were added to the team in January.
