SWFL to host U.S. Open women, seniors and men qualifiers
Southwest Florida is living up to its reputation as one of the golf capitals of the United States.The region is hosting three U.S. Golf Association qualifiers, one in April and two in May. Crown Colony in south Fort Myers is hosting the senior men’s 18-hole qualifier April 25 and the men’s 18-hole U.S. Open qualifier May 8. Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples is hosting the women’s 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier May 13.The senior men’s open and the men’s and women’s U.S. Opens are three of the most prestigious events in golf.The Florida State Golf Association selects the qualifier sites.

A century ago, Nikola Tesla was a world-famous wizard of electrical engineering. But he fell into obscurity, and his lab on Long Island, N.Y, which was supposed to be his crowning achievement, has long sat derelict. Now a crowdsourcing campaign has brought out donations from Tesla fans around the world.

Dynamite Brings Down Lake Champlain Bridge
Engineers dynamited the massive Crown Point Bridge that links Vermont and New York across Lake Champlain on Monday. The 80-year-old bridge was closed without warning last fall because of safety concerns. Its destruction punctuates a major transportation crisis that has worsened as the lake begins to ice up, forcing motorists to make 100-mile detours. A new bridge is expected to open in 2011.

Dunbar High students to represent Florida at national competitions
Three Dunbar High School students will go for the triple crown this summer at the 2023 Certiport Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship. The Fort Myers school will have a state champion competing in each of the three categories: Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
