Doug MacGregor’s Political Campaign Cartoons, 1980-2016

Cartoonist Doug MacGregor has been drawing political cartoons for more than 30 years. His work was a daily part of the editorial pages of the Fort Myers News-Press from 1988 through 2011, and his cartoons still appear once a week in the paper’s Sunday edition.

A collection of MacGregor’s work is now on display in a new exhibit at BIG ARTS on Sanibel Island. “Doug MacGregor’s Campaign Cartoons, 1980-2016, a Hysterical and Historical Retrospective,” covers 36 years of political cartoons, ranging from Jimmy Carter to Florida’s contentious 2000 election, to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

The exhibit runs through Oct. 21 and admission is free. BIGARTS is hosting a public reception Sept. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

We’ll explore his work covering three decades of American politics, discuss the power editorial cartoons in questioning authority and highlighting corruption and other social issues, and examine how political cartoons have changed throughout history.

Guest:  Doug MacGregor, political cartoonist, children’s book author and illustrator, Arts in Healthcare Coordinator at Lee Memorial Health System, freelance artist and graphic designer
