An urban vegetable garden at the Ft. Myers’ STARS Complex created by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lee County, Key Club volunteers, and Sown Together.";

As much of the rest of the contrary digs out from snow storms, Florida green thumbs say now is the time to start digging into the dirt to get your garden started in Southwest Florida.

We'll talk with professional container gardener Ken Ryan, from North Fort Myers' Herban Gardens, about growing fresh produce from potted plants.

If you have a plot of land you’d like to turn into a veggie patch, we'll also feature a local organic farmer about how to work with Florida’s sandy soil and relentless pests.

And if you have citrus trees in your yard, learn when to fertilize and prune, and when you should plan to harvest.

Matthew Smith is a reporter and producer of WGCU’s Gulf Coast Live.
