The Affordable Care Act open enrollment period for next year began on November 1st and runs until December 15. There is no longer a federal penalty for going without insurance, but if you want to get covered with a plan through the ACA Marketplace but don’t act by December 15 you will not be able to get 2020 coverage unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Plans sold during Open Enrollment start on January 1. We learn about educational and outreach efforts here in Florida from Jodi Ray, Program Director of Florida Covering Kids & Families, it's the state's only Navigator Program.
The Special Enrollment Period is outside the yearly Open Enrollment Period when you can sign up for health insurance. You qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you've had certain life events, including losing health coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child.
