Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s new three-part “Hemingway” documentary continues tonight at 8:00 on WGCU-TV. The six hour series shines light on one of the most famous and storied writers in American history. Over the course of his career Ernest Hemingway published seven novels, six collections of short stories, and two works of non-fiction. His approach to writing, which he termed the iceberg theory, strongly influenced 20th century fiction around the world.
Throughout Hemingway’s life he had a number of famous residences, including in Cuba, and in Key West where he lived for about a decade from the late 1920s to the late 1930s. We get a sense of his time in The Keys, where he left a mark that continues to this day, with author, poet, and publisher Arlo Haskell. He’s executive director of the Key West Literary Seminar and grew up in The Keys surrounded by Hemingway’s influence and legacy.
