Jeremy Haft “Is Fortress America Forfeiting the Global Economy to Rising China?

Most economists in a recent survey view a trade war between the U.S. and China as the biggest threat to the U.S. economy in 2019, a sign that forecasters view political uncertainty and the potential for new punitive tariff barriers as greater risks than macroeconomic or financial disruptions. On a "need to know" basis, we have invited Professor Haft to discuss that survey and his very provocative title.
Entrepreneur, author, and teacher, Jeremy Haft is a 20 year business veteran of the US-China import-export sector, where he traded everything from auto parts to oil rigs, honey to pork sides. He is the author of two popular books on China trade—Unmade in China: The Hidden Truth About China’s Economic Miracle (Polity Books: 2015) and All the Tea in China: How to Buy, Sell, and Make Money on the Mainland (Penguin: 2007). Having been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University since 2011, Haft also guest lectures at universities, high schools, and non-profits across the country and is a frequent commentator about trade in the media. Haft’s analysis on China trade has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, NBC, CBS, and ABC, CNN, CNBC, Fox, and National Public Radio, among others.
