Florida is home to a vast number of award-winning emerging to mid-career contemporary artists. Each year, The Baker Museum of Art invites three of them to exhibit their work in a show called “Florida Contemporary.” The idea is to expose local people to new work by the state’s leading artists.

“The Dutch House” art exhibition closes January 5th. Philadelphia-based artist Becky Suss’ inspiration for the works in this show was American author Ann Patchett’s 2019 novel of the same name.

Long before patrons step inside Naples’ Baker Museum of Art, they’re treated to nearly a dozen magnificent works of art, free of charge. In furtherance of its commitment to outdoor sculpture, The Baker Museum has partnered with the Pelican Bay Foundation to create a sculpture walk along the sidewalk across the street from the Hayes Hall and museum entrances on Pelican Bay Boulevard.

“Alex Katz: Theater and Dance” constitutes the first comprehensive exploration of Katzʼs playful and inventive collaborations with choreographers, dancers and members of avant-garde theater ensembles over six decades. In addition to presenting a range of works by innovators across the performing arts and poetry, it spotlights 15 shows Katz produced with Paul Taylor, exploring the creative partnership that generated some of the most significant postmodern dance and art of the 20th century.

An exhibition titled “Prison Nation,” is now at the Baker Museum at Artis-Naples. Through photography, the exhibition creates a visual record of the national crisis of mass incarceration. We talk with the exhibition’s co-curator Nicole Fleetwood, Ph.D., who will deliver a lecture about the exhibition Aug. 31 at the Baker Museum.

The Baker Museum at Artis-Naples has emerged from challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and damage from Hurricane Irma with new exhibitions “True Likeness,” and “Recent Acquisitions: 2019 – Present.”“True Likeness” invites viewers to re-examines why we are so mesmerized by our own faces and the ones we encounter as we re-emerge from our homes in the wake of the pandemic.“Recent Acquisitions” includes 50 works that have been added to the museum’s permanent collection since 2019, most of which are now available for public view for the first time.
