As we close out the year, Fridays in December will go to honoring 5 musicians, singers, and songwriters who left us in 2022. December 16 is dedicated to the first woman of country music, Loretta Lynn, who died October 4 at the age of 90.

Veterans Day didn’t start out honoring all veterans. It began as Armistice Day, which first was celebrated on Nov. 11, 1919, one year after the fighting in World War I ceased. The name changed in 1954, when the holiday honored veterans of all wars.

Singer/songwriter and Southwest Florida native Katie Lyon is releasing a new EP of original music amid the COVID-19 pandemic titled, “Some Things Take Time.” The five-song EP drops July 21, but is available for preorder. Lyon describes her sound as “the easy listening side of country,” with influences includes Brandi Carlile, Miranda Lambert, George Strait and Jason Isbell.
