To deal with growing traffic demand on local infrastructure, a new kind of interchange is coming to the intersection of I-75 and Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers.The diverging diamond interchange will replace the current intersection, which is organized with traditional cross-traffic left-turn lanes using traffic lights.

The Sandy Fire in the southeastern portion of the Big Cypress National Preserve has grown over 11,000 acres and fire officials have activated a second phase of evacuation plans for those living within the affected area.The wildfire began May 1 as a 50-acre blaze in an area of the preserve between I-75 to then north and U.S. 41 to the south.

The Cypress Camp Trail Fire, which started on April 4, 2023, is now 9,749 acres and 81% contained. Crews will continue to hold and improve the perimeter of the fire over the next several days, or until precipitation ensures the fire is secure.

On Saturday, two maintenance crew workers were attempting to cross I-75 in a Gator utility vehicle for debris removal and were struck by a vehicle. They faced non-incapacitating injuries and expect to make a full recovery.
