Maribel Perez Wadsworth, former president of Gannett Media, publisher of USA Today and an editor at The News-Press in Fort Myers, has been appointed president and CEO of The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.The appointment was announced by the $2.6 billion Miami-based media organization on Tuesday.

Local newspaper reporters and photographers in Fort Myers and Naples are staging a one-day strike Monday. Workers at The News-Press and Naples Daily News unionized as the Southwest Florida News Guild in 2020 under the auspices of The NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America. They have not yet been able to get Gannett, which owns both publications, to agree to a contract.
