A special Family Wet Walk has been added to the 2023 schedule at the Six Mile Cypress Slough.The walk is free for children ages 8 to 11 and offers unique outdoor activities for kids.

Gator Lake part of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve boardwalk to temporarily close

The section of boardwalk trail along Gator Lake at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, 7751 Penzance Blvd., Fort Myers, will close temporarily Aug. 24, for maintenance. The boardwalk is expected to reopen Sept. 1.

Friends of the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve has announced its 2023 schedule for wet walks, which allow visitors access to part of the Slough that’s normally off-limit and lets them experience the beautiful wetlands in new and surprising ways.

Local multicultural Nicaraguan-born photographer, Lisette Morales McCabe, published a photo book after an illness caused her to want to reconnect to nature. She found the experience healing for her. On this day she walked around the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. A few of the photos in her book came from the Slough.
