A nationwide scam involving jury duty and fines for a claimed non-appearance has prompted an alert from officials of the U.S. Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida. Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan and U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg issued the warning Monday advising the public of a scam in which callers pose as U.S. Marshals or other government officials and claim that the victim is about to be arrested for not appearing for jury duty but can avoid arrest by paying a fine.

Two Florida men are charged in an indictment unsealed today in federal court for the District of Columbia with multiple felonies and misdemeanors related to their conduct during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Tom Vournas, 62, of Bradenton, and Leonard Lobianco, 52, of North Port, are named in the indictment and were arrested Thursday in Florida by the FBI. They will make their initial appearance in the Middle District of Florida.

An Ohio man is facing a possible life prison sentence after pleading guilty to the Halloween armed robbery of a Fort Myers bank.Grant Elmore Davis, Jr. , 71, of Mansfield, Ohio, entered a guilty plea Wednesday to charges of armed bank robbery, discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
