Cape Coral Police say more than 200 homes suffered more than $6 million in light to severe damages in Saturday night’s tornado. Most of the damage is in the southwestern part of the Cape. They are asking people who do not live in the area to completely avoid Beach Parkway between Chiquita and Sands Boulevards and any other areas damaged by the tornado.
A press release says City of Cape Coral officials toured the damaged areas Sunday. Cape Coral Police will continue to have additional officers in the area to protect people and property. Police are still checking identifications to only allow homeowners and tenants to enter the area.
Police say to assume that all downed power lines are dangerous and to keep your distance. Homeowners using generators should be aware of carbon monoxide fumes. Please do not use generators inside the home or garage, only in well ventilated areas outside of the home. At this time there have not been any boil water notices.
