Jacksonville-based U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown (D-FL5) is dismissing a federal investigation into her office as "politically motivated" and a "tangential" byproduct of her federal suit challenging the new shape of her district.

As first reported by POLITICO Florida Wednesday, Brown was served a subpoena this week. Neither she nor the federal Justice Department would comment on the subject of the investigation, but Brown released the a written statement through a spokesman, saying, in part, "The 5th congressional district is under attack through the redistricting process, and now it is under siege by other political forces."

Brown is suing the state of Florida in federal court over a recently approved district map that dramatically alters the shape of her district.

Instead of running from Jacksonville south to Orlando, her new district will run west from Jacksonville to Tallahassee.
