The Florida State University Police Department has arrested six people in a campus drug trafficking investigation. Half of those charged with felonies are current FSU students.
Three of the people arrested are students, and FSU Police Chief David Perry says more arrests are coming:
“Times have changed. No longer are students going into the bathroom and turning on hot water or putting towels under their door. Some of these students are so bold as to place the pictures of these illegal substances on social media sites.”
Perry says his department is monitoring all forms of information. The investigation began last November and was sparked due to a tip from a confidential source. In a release about the bust, FSU PD says the people targeted are considered high-level drug traffickers peddling cocaine.
“We’ve heard of drug use and drug sales operating through various networks across the university and hadn’t been able to confirm that information until recently through this investigation," said Perry.
Charges include conspiracy to sell cocaine, trafficking in cocaine and sale of cocaine. The students also face code of conduct hearings that could result in suspension or expulsion. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, United States Drug Enforcement Agency, State Attorney’s office and U.S. Attorney’s office assisted in the investigation.
“This behavior will not be tolerated and additional arrests are pending. We’re familiar with our students’ networks and we hope that this will send a clear message that this is only the beginning and we will not tolerate this behavior on campus," Perry said.
