Demand is high for disaster prep necessities, and it’s sending prices skyward.
With grocery store shelves empty, Attorney General Pam Bondi says some are turning to online retailers for water.
“But what you’ve got are these third party vendors who are trying to trick people, and saying water is at somewhat of a reasonable rate yet charging 100 dollar shipping fee," Bondi explains.
"That’s sickening. It’s disgusting, it’s unacceptable and we’re not going to have it. If that’s happening, let us know so we can stop it for you—please.”
Florida prohibits price gouging during a state of emergency. Bondi’s office has already processed more than 500 complaints. In addition to water she says her office has received numerous complaints about fuel.
