The Florida governor, lieutenant governor and Cabinet members wouldn't be able to accept political contributions while the Legislature is in session under a bill moving through the House.
The Oversight, Transparency & Administration Subcommittee overwhelmingly approved the bill Wednesday. It would put the same fundraising restrictions on the statewide elected officials that are already applied to lawmakers.
Democratic Rep. Evan Jenne says his bill would make it a misdemeanor if an official solicits or accepts political contributions during a legislative session. A second offense would be a third-degree felony.
