Consumer Confidence Up in November

Floridians are feeling better about the economy, according to a survey by the University of Florida. The outlook improved after a dreary October. Consumer confidence fell in October during a shutdown of the federal government that lasted more than two weeks.

While Washington debated how to fix it, the nation crept closer to its debt limit. But lawmakers reached a solution, and buyers opened their wallets again in November. The survey found that more Floridians think now is a good time to buy big-ticket items like cars. They think they’re better off financially than they were last year, and they’re feeling better about the economy in the coming year, although they don’t expect their personal finances to improve.

Florida seniors were the most pessimistic group.

Researchers say it’s because of lingering concern about the nation's debt ceiling - and the potential impacts on their social security checks and stock market investments.
