Wikimedia Creative Commons

A new lesson plan unveiled for teachers state-wide debuted this week—and it’s aiming to teach students about the Everglades. The Everglades Foundation launched 36 lesson plans, 3 per K-12 grade level, to teach students about “Everglades Literacy.”

The program is the result of a collaboration with scientists, teachers, college professors and foundation board members.Eric Eikenberg of the Everglades Foundation says one of their goals is to inspire a new generation of conservationists.

“There’s going to be a day when we have to hand it off. And children in school today are going to be the ones to take up the banner, and they need to properly educated and this is a wonderful opportunity”, said Eikenberg.

Twenty-five teachers in South Florida piloted the lesson plans and provided feedback to the foundation.
