As we begin a new month two things are on the national radar: the beginning of Obamacare with the opening of insurance marketplaces, and a shutdown of government in a disagreement over funding Obamacare.
In Florida, the Marketplace insurance shopping has been complicated over a disagreement about navigators. Those are counselors who are supposed to help people find the insurance they are required to get under the Affordable care act.
Florida has tried to ban the navigators from county health departments, saying they are a threat to people's privacy because they handle lots of personal information in an unsecure manner. But Florida US Senator Democrat Bill Nelson is wondering what all the fuss is about.Nelson said recently that "Many state and federal agencies have such navigators involved in helping folks through the often complex processes associated with filing benefits claims, for example - even buying health insurance."
PolitiFact Florida checked that out and PolitiFact's Angie Holan explained what they found.
