Florida’s minimum wage is set to increase by 14 cents starting in January, up to $7.93. The state automatically raises minimum wage each year to keep up with inflation.

Teresita Cicilia owns the Sake Room restaurant on Biscayne Boulevard.
She says she watches the minimum wage carefully even though most of her employees earn more.

“I have to", Cicilia said. "They send me posters from the government so I have to know what is the minimum wage.”

The minimum wage for people who get tips will also increase 14 cents, up to $4.91. With the increases Florida’s is now about 70 cents higher than the national minimum wage.
