ACLU Reacts to Ashton Report on Death of Ibragim Todashev

The American Civil Liberties Union says it still has questions about the fatal shooting of a Chechen man by an FBI agent in Orlando. That’s after Florida State Attorney Jeff Ashton released the results of an investigation clearing the agent of misconduct.

Ibragim Todashev was being questioned at his home on May 22nd last year by the FBI and Massachusetts State Police in connection with a triple homicide in Boston in 2011. Todashev was shot seven times after lunging at the officers with a pole.

The ACLU’s Baylor Johnson says the report could be more transparent.

“But even in light of the information in this report, the central question of whether the killing of Mr. Todashev was justified remains frustratingly unanswered,” says Baylor.

The ACLU plans to push for further investigation by the Massachusetts State Attorney and the Department of Justice.
