Marie Adams retired after 43 years as the city clerk for the City of Fort Myers.

More than four decades ago, Fort Myers city clerk Marie Adams reported to her first day of work with the City of Fort Myers as the secretary to the City Clerk. On Monday, after 43 years on the job, she celebrated retired from her job as City Clerk.

The City Council Proclaimed it “Marie Adams” day and the Florida Association of City Clerks presented a resolution in her honor. The city notes that employees considered Adams an "unofficial historian" after serving eight mayors and two city managers in her career.

Wednesday at 1 p.m., Adams looks back on nearly half a century of working with the City of Fort Myers, and the changes she's seen in the "City of Palms" over the years.
