As the economy has ground to a halt because of the COVID-19 outbreak the number of people who are food insecure has increased at an unprecedented rate. The Harry Chapin Food Bank in Fort Myers is the largest hunger-relief network in Southwest Florida, serving Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
It normally distributes donated food and other grocery products to partner agencies and programs that provide direct services to those in need, like food pantries, mobile pantries, and senior programs. During normal times it provides food for about 28,000 individuals each week. We find out how the response to the new coronavirus has impacted its operations with its president and CEO, Richard LeBer.
