Abortion Supporters: Expand Medicaid and Cover More Women

Abortion-rights advocates rallied at the Capitol Monday on women's health issues. They argued against bills they fear could infringe on abortion rights and called for the state to accept federal funds to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

Senator Eleanor Sobel, a Hollywood Democrat, said accepting the money would mean health care coverage for another one million uninsured people.

"Floridians pay our fair share of federal taxes", Sobel said. "Why wouldn't we take advantage of the more than $50 billion in federal funds available to us between 2013 and 2022?"

According to Planned Parenthood, 31% of black women and 38% of Hispanic women are uninsured. More than two million women statewide currently have no health care coverage.
