Home Grown Girls: Sex Trafficking in Florida

Global Panorama

You can watch the special live studio audience broadcast of “Gulf Coast Live!” here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vlb3IgLzFg

The National Human Trafficking Resource Center estimates more than 20 million people are enslaved worldwide and that Florida ranks third in the nation when it comes to the number of reported sex trafficking cases.  Victims of human trafficking are children, women and men who are sexually exploited or coerced to work through force or fraud.

As January marks Human Trafficking Awareness Month, we go before a live studio audience for a conversation on changes in the way Florida’s criminal justice system is handling prostitution – as victims, not criminals, and going after pimps as traffickers instead.  We’ll hear survivor stories and talk about efforts to eradicate human trafficking, especially in Florida.  We’ll also explore ways to identify, protect and prevent people, especially women and girls from the U.S., from becoming victims.
