Next month, tens of thousands of people will flock to South Florida for Super BowlLIV.
But the Miami Beach police department has been preparing for almost a year.
They hosted a town hall Thursday night to talk about traffic, safety and all the events happening around the city.
Greg Terp, vice president of the Miami Super Bowl host committee, shared his confidence in hosting the big game.
“People down here know how to host big events especially here on Miami Beach, and they do a great job at it.” he said.
The host committee has been working with police departments in South Florida since last year’s Super Bowl in Atlanta.“We had several members of our leadership team actually go to Atlanta and work closely with the Atlanta police department and see all the measures they had in place for their Super Bowl,” Miami Beach Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said.
Traffic was on everyone’s mind at the town hall. Residents and business owners wondered how the influx of people would affect their day-to-day operations.
Rodriguez said limiting traffic is a priority for the police, and that residents should explore options other than driving.“We encourage the use of Uber, Lyft all the various types of ride-share options as well as public transit.” he said.
