Media General sells Tampa Tribune, TBO

The 117-year-old Tampa Tribune has been sold. Starting this week, the Tribune is being run by a new company called Tampa Media Group.

The Tampa Tribune's previous owner was a Virginia based company called Media General Inc. The Tribune, its affiliated newspapers and TBO.com are now owned by Revolution Capital Group based in California.

The price tag was $9.5 million.

Media General keeps WFLA News Channel 8 but the TV station will remain partners with the newspaper.

According to TBO.com, employees from the Tribune and WFLA will still attend news meetings and work on news projects together. The TV, newspaper, and online staff have been sharing news stories and office space since 1999. Employees from the Tribune are now expected to move to the building next door.

The Tampa Tribune has a daily circulation of about 145,000 and a Sunday circulation of about 262,000.
