On Tuesday, Governor Rick Scott said his economic plan is on track, and Florida's falling unemployment rate is part of the reason.
PolitiFact Florida, the fact-checking site, rated Scott's claim that the state's jobless rate has fallen 2.3 points to 8.8% in July "mostly false" .
It cited the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, which found that if the state's 94,000 discouraged workers were added to the rolls, the jobless rate would be 9.7%.
Scott was dismissive. He said, "Look at the chart. Look at the Department of Revenue numbers. That is 130,000 jobs. That is 130,000 families that now have work that didn't have it before - 130,000 jobs."
Florida ranks last in the nation for long-term unemployment.
A recent study by Florida International University found more than half the 816,000 jobless Floridians have been looking for work six months or more, a new national record.
