Senators Considering Revamp of Foster Youth Services

The Senate panel that oversees Florida's child welfare system plans to revamp services to young people aging out of foster care.

They heard from the president of the Florida State Foster-and-Adoptive Parent Association this week.

Trudy Petkovich has fostered 300 children and has 3 adoptive daughters with special needs.

"It's a learning experience for the foster parents to learn how to parent a child, a youth, that's had trauma – that's had disappointment after disappointment in their life – teaching them how to trust", said Petkovich.

Senator Nancy, who sponsored the state's first independent living bill for foster youth ten years ago, will craft a new one this year.
