Scott Budget Recs Boost Education Spending by $1.2 Billion

Governor Rick Scott on Thursday rolled out his budget recommendations for the fiscal year starting July first. He wants to put $18.5 Billion into K-12 education, a $1.2 Billion increase over this year.

That includes a $2,500 raise for all full-time teachers.

"By doubling down on our investment in K-12 education, this billion-dollar investment sustains last year's billion-dollar investment in K-12 and puts another $1.2 billion in Florida classrooms", said Scott.

Scott's budget also would boost per-student spending to $6,800, a 6.5% increase over the current fiscal year.

Educators cheered the recommendations. But legislative leaders have said they'll look closely at the governor's plan, especially at the across-the-board raise for teachers.
