A group of Floridians traveled to Capitol Hill to lobby lawmakers on immigration reform. Before the rally some South Floridians met with lawmaker’s staffs, including aides of Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
Fort Lauderdale resident Scarleth Herrera whose family is from Bolivia says they brought a simple message. "I think this is a country of opportunities and everyone deserves, and we haven't gotten a chance yet because of this broken system we have", Herrera said.
Nova Southeastern University student Antonella Sanchez says the immigration status of her Argentine family members proves the system is broken.
"My parents, one has it, and then the other one doesn't", said Sanchez. "My sister has it, and my brother doesn't, so my family's divided in half."
All eyes are on Senator Rubio and his so-called Gang of Eight. The group is preparing to unveil a comprehensive immigration reform bill later this week. The big question for the group is whether they can convince enough rank and file Republicans to get on board and help them pass a bill.
