Medical marijuana would be legal in Florida if voters pass a ballot initiative next year. But Attorney General Pam Bondi and legislative leaders are trying to stop the initiative from reaching voters.
The Florida Supreme Court will consider their argument that the current ballot language would give too many people access to the drug.University of Miami law professor Donald Jones says the court will have to look at the entire argument for medical marijuana - not just the language on the ballot.
"If the medical marijuana would reduce harm, if there's a consensus among medical professionals that this is good that's the strongest argument. So if I were handicapping this like a horserace I would give 2-to-1 that the medical marijuana advocates prevail on this one."
The court will hear arguments from both sides on Thursday.
