Big Names Cheer on Governor Rick Scott

Big names are cheering on Governor Rick Scott as election results come in.

Ashley Lopez reports Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford says he’s confident Florida voters will support the incumbent candidate as well as the Legislature’s Republican majority during this election.

The race is still too close to call-- even though governor Rick Scott has more than 120 thousand votes over his Democratic opponent Charlie Crist.

But leaders in Florida’s Republican Party are confident. Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford said he thinks the incumbent candidate will win tonight’s tight race.

“Well we are seeing a lot of positive signs,” said Weatherford. “We feel very good about where we are right now. We have every reason to believe this will continue to trend in Governor Scott’s favor. I believe he is going to win tonight.  I believe this is going to be a historic night for the Republican Party across the board.”

Scott has maintained a steady lead throughout the night. However, numbers from the state’s Democratic-leaning Southeast Coast have not been reported.
