FBI Agent in Florida Shooting Could Have Checkered Past

The Council on American-Islamic Relations Florida says an FBI agent who killed a suspect in Orlando has a history of brutality allegations.

A year ago, the agent shot and killed Ibragim Todashev during questioning related to the Boston Marathon bombing. Separate investigations cleared the agent of wrongdoing.CAIR and the Boston Globe say they learned that, as a police officer in California, the FBI agent engaged in alleged police brutality and potential corruption.

CAIR Florida Director Hassan Shibley criticizes the reports clearing the agent, like the one from State Attorney Jeff Ashton.

"What I see in the report is they weren't lazy at all about researching the history of confrontations that Mr. Todashev was involved in, but there's absolutely no research at all on the history of the FBI agent, so maybe they didn't want to find it", said Shibley.

CAIR sent letters this week to the State Attorney, the FBI and the Department of Justice. They ask for transparency and renewed review of the incident.

WMFE contacted all three organizations and received no comment by deadline.
