There are more than 13 million registered voters in the state of Florida.
At the close of Early Voting over the weekend, more than 4 million voters in Florida had already voted by mail for the November general election. By comparison, 3.1 million were cast early in 2014.
The close races for both governor and U.S. senate are being credited for the high voter turnout in a midterm election. Florida voters will be choosing between gubernatorial candidates Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a Democrat, and former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, a Republican. Gillum has been endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, while President Trump's support of DeSantis likely led to his victory over Adam Putnam in the primaries.
Meanwhile, outgoing Republican Gov. Rick Scott is challenging incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in a race that could determine whether Republicans maintain control of the chamber.
