Robbie Gaffney

Robbie Gaffney is a recent graduate from Florida State University with degrees in Digital Media Production and Creative Writing. Before working at WFSU, they recorded FSU’s basketball and baseball games for Seminole Productions as well as interned for the PBS Station in Largo, Florida. Robbie loves playing video games such as Shadow of the Colossus, Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Their other hobbies include sleeping and watching anime.

While there are many accommodations for disabled Floridians at the polls, those same accommodations don't exist for Floridians who want to vote by mail. But a new option for disabled mail-in voters is being explored in five counties.

    Florida doesn't have any accommodations for disabled Floridians who wish to vote by mail. If you're blind or can't use your arms, you'll need to get someone else to fill out your ballot. But in at least five counties, that's going to change.

    State health officials reported 2,541 new COVID-19 cases, Thursday bringing Florida's total to 693,040 cases. The Florida Department of Health also reported 177 new coronavirus-related deaths, Sept. 24, increasing the statewide death toll to 13,961 fatalities.Of the 5,186,646 COVID-19 tests that have been reported in Florida so far, the overall positivity rate has reduced to 13.36% and the latest single-day positivity rate fell to 4.44% after rising about the five percent threshold in the previous two days.

    State health officials reported 2,470 new COVID-19 cases, Tuesday, bringing Florida's total to 687,909 cases. The Florida Department of Health also reported 99 new coronavirus-related deaths, Sept. 22, increasing the statewide death toll to 13,579 fatalities.Of the 5,139,472 COVID-19 tests that have been reported in Florida so far, the overall positivity rate now stands at 13.38%. The latest single day positivity rate increased slightly to 5.83%.

The Florida Department of Health also reported 147 new coronavirus-related deaths, Sept. 17, bringing the statewide death toll to 13,247 fatalities.Of the 5,018,057 COVID-19 tests that have been reported in Florida so far, the overall positivity rate stands at 13.44%. The latest single-day positivity rate stands at 4.44%.

    State health officials reported 1,838 new COVID-19 cases, Monday, bringing Florida's total to 648,269 cases.Sept. 7 marked the lowest single-day increase in reported new infections in Florida since June 15, but whether the Labor Day holiday weekend will result in a surge in new infections, as the state experienced about a week after the July 4th holiday, remains to be seen.The Florida Department of Health also reported 22 new coronavirus-related deaths, Monday, bringing the statewide death toll to 12,023 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.

    The Florida Department of Health reported 1,885 new cases of COVID-19, Monday, marking the ninth consecutive day of fewer than 4,000 cases and the lowest single-day increase in reported cases since June 15.State health officials also reported 68 new deaths of Florida residents, Aug. 31, increasing the statewide death toll to 11,331 fatalities.

    State health officials reported 4,752 new cases of COVID-19, Monday bringing the statewide total to 491,884 cases.Monday's reported new cases of the virus mark the lowest single-day increase since June 26, when the Florida Department of Health reported 3,366 new cases. June 26 was also the same day Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered bars to close for a second time since the beginning of the pandemic.Monday also marked the ninth consecutive day the state has reported fewer than 10,000 new cases of the virus in a single day.

    State health officials reported 186 new coronavirus-related deaths, Tuesday, setting a new record high for the number of deaths reported in a single day.Yesterday's deaths bring Florida's statewide death toll from the virus to 6,117 fatalities.2,760 deaths, or 45% of Florida's total COVID fatalities have been among staff and residents of long-term care facilities. Even so, Gov. Ron DeSantis says he's considering a possible relaxation of the state's ban on visitation to long-term care facilities like nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
