Before the collapse of the housing bubble in 2007, work in Southwest Florida’s construction industry was easy to come by. Now though, a recent News-Press article finds that the region continues to lose jobs in the construction industry even as the overall unemployment rate declines. Despite this, and the fact that Florida is now beating out Nevada for the highest foreclosure rate in the country for the first time in five years, local industry experts say the building industry has been on the upswing. Executive Vice President of the Lee Building Industry Association, Michael Reitmann joins us for a look at the current health of Southwest Florida’s construction industry and what to expect going forward in 2013.
