Florida is known for having robust laws when it comes to public access to records related to state and local government documents and communications. However, allegations of violations to Florida’s Sunshine Law have been making headlines in recent weeks. In August, Tallahassee attorney Steven Andrews expanded his lawsuit against Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging violations to the state’s open records law.
It’s the latest development in Andrews two-year fight over property near the Governor’s Mansion. Then last week, a Xerox employee filed a separate public records lawsuit against the Florida Department of Revenue alleging agency staff held secret meetings about who to award a nearly $50 million contract to process child support payments, and then lost recordings of those meetings.
