Earlier this year we connected with a local bird watcher as she embarked upon her "big year," It’s an informal competition among birders to see who can spot the largest number of different birds species in a given year.

Now that almost half the year has passed, we’re checking back in with Yve Morrell to see how far she’s gotten down her 700 species checklist.  We’ll also find out how many miles she’s logged while trying to make 2017 her "big year" as we revisit our interview from February.

Also on that program is Kara Lefevre, an assistant professor of Environmental Sciences at FGCU. She discusses birdwatching in Southwest Florida and a birding seminar that was held in Fort Myers looking at migratory patterns not only of birds, but also the people who watch them.
