Florida Republican Gubernatorial Debate

Republican frontrunners in the GOP gubernatorial race faced-off Wednesday in their second and final debate ahead of Florida’s August 28th primary election, which is now less than three weeks away.

The debate included Florida Agriculture Secretary Adam Putnam and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis.  The two men discussed and debated a number of hot button issues in this year’s election including healthcare, gun control and Florida’s environment – including the releases of nutrient-laden water from Lake Okeechobee into the Caloosahatchee River, which is contributing to the current red tide and blue green algae crisis currently choking Southwest Florida waterways and killing marine life.

The debate was held on the campus of Jacksonville University and was moderated by the University’s President Tim Cost.  The event was sponsored by WJXT-TV and was carried by our sister station in the Florida Public Radio Network, WJCT-FM

In July, “Gulf Coast Live!” carried audio from the Democratic gubernatorial debate held here in Southwest Florida.  Today we broadcast the audio, in full, from the Aug. 8 Republican gubernatorial primary debate.
