Florida Governor Rick Scott rallied sign-waving supporters at a celebration in St. Petersburg Monday for $400 million dollars in tax cuts. He said Floridians won't have to look beyond their purse or pocket for proof.
"So if you have a cell phone, take it out and hold it up--this is a tax cut," Scott said. "We have a tax cut of over $200 million. That's right--over 200 million back in your pockets."
Scott said that this tax cut will allow people to use their own discretion when spending.
"If you grew up in a family that didn't have money, like many of us did, our parents usually told us 'we could spend the money better than government could,'" Scott said. "That they didn't need government telling us how to spend our money and that's what we believe, that we can spend our money better than government can spend our money."
This stop looked much like others on the governor's one-day, seven city tour.
Scott also highlighted cuts to taxes on cable and college textbooks. In addition, the back-to-school tax holiday will be extended to 10 days this year. The $400 million in tax cuts are part of Florida's nearly $79 billion budget, approved by lawmakers last week.
