The Florida Board of Governors is taking its idea of an online university to the Florida Legislature. The Board hired a consulting group that came up with four options the state could use to expand online learning.
The options include creating a 13th state university that would be online only.
Democratic Representative Cynthia Stafford from Opa Locka sits on the House Education Committee. She’s concerned about the potential negative impact on Florida’s existing universities.
“If we’re moving toward a direction to make policies that say that we will have an exclusive online university but then again making decisions and creating policy that stifles the others’ ability to offer online – I have a concern with that”, said Stafford.
Other options include individual universities beefing up their online offerings, or collaborating to share resources for online programs.
