Federal hurricane hunters stopped by Naples on Friday to get people ready for the upcoming season.
They brought some of their aircraft, too.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA showed off one of its jets at the event.
It flies around storms, dropping sensors and collecting data.
The National Weather Service and local emergency managers use this information to issue warnings or evacuation orders.
The planes are part of a week-long tour by NOAA and the United States Air Force to raise awareness for hurricane season.
National Hurricane Center Director Rick Knabb said there are things people can do right now to get ready for a potential storm.
“You have the power to write the ending to your own hurricane outcome by doing things in advance that are too hard, too expensive, impossible to do at the last minute,” he said. “Start by finding out if you live in a hurricane evacuation zone, plan for evacuation in advance, shop for your supplies, visit your insurance agent, do whatever you can to make your home stronger and your outcome will be far more in your control.”
The Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1.
