A top Democratic official says President Obama wants South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to stay on as party chair. The president's election has raised her profile on the national level.
Wasserman Schultz has overseen the Democratic National Committee since early 2011, and party officials credit her with helping the president carry her home state of Florida, as well as leading the party to an expanded majority in the Senate and more seats in the House.
According to Politico, Mr. Obama is asking members of the DNC to back her re-election when they meet next month following the president's inauguration.
The 46-year-old mother of three and a breast cancer survivor, has represented a reliably Democratic Fort Lauderdale-area district since 2005, earning a reputation as a hard working, outspoken liberal happy to engage in battle with her Republican counterparts in Congress.
Wasserman Schultz also served a key role in the 2012 election as a fundraiser, and by helping Mr Obama secure the state's crucial Jewish vote.
