Two lawmakers want more protection against discrimination for pregnant women in the workplace.
Senator Geraldine Thompson of Orlando and Representative Lori Berman of Lantana say federal law offers that shield, but Florida courts haven't upheld it.
Thompson on Tuesday pointed to the case of Naeisha Sanders, who she says was fired from her job at a group home while pregnant with her second child.
"She is the breadwinner and the head of her household and was a victim of discrimination and released from her position for no other reason than her pregnancy", said Thompson.
Thompson and Berman said their bills would bring Florida into line with federal protections.
The Florida Commission on Human Relations supports the measure.
