Tropical Storm Gonzalo forms Sunday

FPREN

Tropical Storm Gonzalo formed east of the Leeward Islands Sunday and could become the season's next hurricane by Tuesday.

Hurricane Hunters found a closed center and tropical storm force winds near previously designated Invest 90 on Sunday afternoon. The National Hurricane Center says newly formed Tropical Storm Gonzalo could be a hurricane as it turns north east of The Bahamas by Tuesday.

Forecast models are in reasonable agreement on the turn out to sea with little or no impact on the United States. However, we will continue to watch this system closely over the coming days. Tropical Storm Fay passed Bermuda Sunday and is expected to become extra-tropical and dissipate early in the week over the northern Atlantic.
